What universities in the Middle East and North Africa want to learn from the German Universities of Applied Sciences
The key to the job market is practical education in close cooperation with the industry - this has been understood in the Kingdom of Jordan since a long time.
Often the help is provided from outside: American Organizations, for example, take care of job preparation programs as well as the German GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit).
A role model in this field is the German Jordanian University, GJU. It is one of the best universities of the country; it is business-technically oriented and closely interlinked with the industry.
Internships and a German study and practice semester year are mandatory. The university has a special office, which is responsible for connecting students and companies.
There are promising programs in Jordan, where professors and industry managers from Germany teach together while integrating the local enterprises; business ideas are developed with the students, which make them fit for the job market and the establishment of small companies.
It takes many small and big efforts to exploit the potential of the region.
