The German Jordanian University (GJU) and the Jordan Industrial Estates Company (JIEC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two sides, seeking to develop the partnership between academic institutions and the Jordanian industrial sector.

The MoU, which was signed on behalf of the university by its president, Prof. Manar Fayyad, and on behalf of the company, its general manager, Mr. Omar Juwaid, aims to cooperate between the two parties in the field of holding training courses and workshops, providing and preparing consultancy and technical services of interest to the industrial sectors.

The company will work to enhance opportunities to training students in industrial companies, appoint graduates, and establish joint research and development projects aimed at solving the problems of the industrial sector and supporting student entrepreneurs.

Fayyad said that partnerships with the industrial sector is within the university's strategic plan that aims to enhance the students' practical skills and encourage academics to conduct applied scientific research.

The university president stressed the importance of exploiting the firm desire of academics and industrialists to work together on joint research projects and encourage students' entrepreneurial ideas.

She pointed out that the GJU has a distinctive infrastructure that encourages innovation and scientific research and qualifies graduates with the modern skills necessary to develop the local industrial sector through advanced academic programs such as the dual studies program.

For his part, the Director-General of the company said that they recently signed agreements with universities of science and technology, Yarmouk, Balqa Applied, and Tafila Technical to train graduates and provide them with decent job opportunities. He praised the role offered by the German Jordanian University and the academic and research expertise it possesses that will contribute to the advancement and progress of the Jordanian industry.

It is worth mentioning that the agreement also stipulated cooperation in the implementation of the dual studies program to integrate applied education in factories with academic education in universities to qualify a new generation of young people who possess practical skills appropriate for the labor market. The two sides agreed to study the establishment of a liaison office for the university in the industrial cities to support the needs and requirements of the local industry.

Jordan Industrial Estates Company (JIEC) is considered the legal successor of the Jordan Industrial Estate Corporation, which was established in 1980 as one of the tributaries of the national economy.

JIEC is one of the most flourishing developers in Jordan that ensures the provision of world-class infrastructure and services. It vibrates with inspiring ideas, expertise, and boundless ambitions. Qualifying it for the ISO certificate and His Majesty's King Abdullah II Award for Excellence as well as many international and national certificates and awards.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Assistant Director of the Company Moataz Namrouqah, Director of King Abdullah II Industrial City, Qusay Makahleh, Vice President of GJU, Prof. Ziad Haddad, Dean of the School of Applied Technical Sciences (SATS), Dr. Safwan Al-Tarazi, SATS Dean Assistant Dr. Nidal Al-Shawara, and Director of Office for Industrial Links Britta Kähler.
