The 10th of January 2024 marked the first Hosted Programme event of the new year. The event took place at the German Lounge of the Jabal Amman Campus and was aimed at interested students in THWS and GJU collaborative Hosted Programmes, Hydrogen Engineering and Social Work.
The information session was opened by GJU Vice president Prof. Dr. Reiner Finkeldey who welcomed the students and their parents and introduced them to GJU. This was followed by a welcome from THWS vice president Prof. Dr. Achim Foerster: “THWS has a strong focus on internationalization. With 2400 international students from all over the world, we want to create a friendly and open study environment.” Prospective students of the hosted programmes could benefit from the networks THWS has built over the years – this also included industry partners and research institutes, so the vice president.
Hosted Program study coordinator Dr. Osama Saadeh then took the stage and introduced the students to the study plans of both majors. As both programmes finish with a german degree, most prospective students will need a pre-year which prepares them for the german university system. Dr. Saadeh emphasized on the advantages of these innovative programmes as they both meet the high labour demand in Jordan and Germany.
The event then moved on from the academic speakers to industry representation in the two fields of study. A video with short statements from industry partners such as Kawar Energy, EMRC (Energy and Mineral Regulatory Commission in Jordan) BDC (business development center) Manaseer Oil and Gas and BMW for the hydrogen sector as well as Médecins Sans Frontières, Collateral Repair Project, Princess Taghreed Institute (PTI), Youth Center Schweinfurt Germany, as well as a Refugee and Integration Counselor from Germany for the field of social work, was presented.
Afterwards, Dr. Mohanad Halawani from Manaseer Oil talked about his view on the future of the hydrogen industry in Jordan. Further, Dr. Aghadir Jweihan, general director of PTI, expressed the need for social workers and informed about the general increase of social activities in the country.
The final part of the evening was a question-and-answer session for interested students starring the current batch of Hydrogen Engineering students and THWS incoming students from social work.
All guests then joined the buffet consisting of German Brezels, with dips of Hummus and Labaneh, the best of both worlds on a plate- to round up the evening. More events are planned to spread news and information about the hosted programmes.
