Her Royal Highness Princess Dana Firas, ICoMOS Jordan President and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Cultural Heritage met with the President of the German Jordanian University (GJU), Prof. Ala’aldeen Al-Halhouli, to discuss potential collaboration, especially the upcoming symposium on Modern heritage in the Arab world to be held jointly between the School of Architecture and Built Environment (SABE) at GJU and ICoMOS in the coming months.

The Dean of SABE, Dr. Maram Tawil, and Dr. Rami Daher a heritage conservation expert and a member of the faculty attended the meeting, where Dr. Daher elaborated that the idea of the event is to hold a workshop with participants/scholars from the Arab world and beyond who had been researching and working with our Arab Modern heritage; therefore, the event attempts to grant voice to this segment of Arab heritage by focusing on the meaning and essence of the Modern movement and heritage; as a major project of cultural change in the region and how can this Modern heritage be continued in the future through conservation works and adaptive reuse, in addition to being an inspiration for future generations in the Arab world.

 ICoMOS-Jordan is a national organization that aims to engage professionals and advocates of cultural heritage preservation in Jordan. ICoMOS Jordan works to build partnerships to enhance cooperation and improve the standards of heritage management and preservation through research and practice.

The vision of ICOMOS-Jordan is to support and promote the conservation of the National Jordanian cultural heritage through awareness and capacity building, coordination, consultation, and through the supporting of research in the areas of protection, conservation, management, and continuity of cultural heritage.

At the end of the visit, HRH Princess Dana Firas toured some of the university’s facilities, where she visited the Deanship of Innovation, Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship and listened to a briefing from its Dean, Dr. Nidal Al-Shawareh, about its role in spreading the culture of leadership and innovation at the university and embracing students’ projects.
