The German Jordanian University, Jordan along with the Technische Universität Berlin, Germany, and the Carthaja University, Tunisia were pleased to cooperate in an Online Workshop under the name of ” Vulnerable Urban Areas: Needs and Development Priorities in the Time of Pandemic – Case Study Side Hussine (Tunis, Tunisia)” funded by DAAD.
This joint Virtual meeting offered a wonderful opportunity to meet different cultures under one platform, using zoom software for five days starting from the 23rd of November till the 27th of November, 2020.
The GJU Team of instructors; Dr. Maram Tawil; coordinator of the project, Dr. Raed Altal; Instructor of the course, and Arch. Dana Massarweh; the project assistant have contributed to the project from GJU with the Project Management students. The partner universities contributed through development and urban design students represented by Dr. Hassan El Mouelhi, from TU Berlin, and Dr. Olfa Ben Madien from Tunesia.
A Kickoff event took place on the 13th of November, 2020, where all the partners from the three universities met and finalized the details of the workshop, presenting the project concept, assignments and the study area of Sidi Hussine, Tunisia.
The workshop study area was Side Hussine, Tunisia, the study included data collection, analysis, and ended up with several mapping layers for five themes. Each group from the three universities worked on a different theme, the Physical Urban conditions, Economic conditions, and Social conditions, Formal/Informal governance, and finally the Ecology and Environment.
On the final day of the workshop, each of the five groups presented their outcomes in a final jury with the attendance of the vice president of the German Jordanian University, Prof. Dr. Ziyad Haddad, and different professors from Tunisia and Germany.
