On Sunday 29th of October 2017, The School of Applied Technical Sciences (SATS), with the cooperation of Embassy of Japan, organized a lecture on “Studies on Interactive Robot” presented by Prof. Hiroshi Ishiguro who is world famous for creating human-like robots and searching what it means to be human.

During the lecture that was attended by GJU's President Prof. Manar Fayyad and number of academic staff, Ishiguro explained the principle of Robot Society and the need of using them in many aspects of life such as Education, Daily Communication, Theaters and big restaurants where robots can speak, assist customers and take customers’ orders.

He clarified the approaches in creating conversations for the robots presenting two ways: The Big- data approach by collecting simple conversational patterns through the internet for unlimited topics and the Story based approach where stories written by writers where a complex conversation for limited topics are presented.

Hiroshi Ishiguro Laboratories were founded to encourage and promote studies based on original and unique ideas from Hiroshi Ishiguro, ATR Fellow, who has remarkable achievements on robotics.

 

New information media based on humanlike robots were explored to harmonize humans with information-environment beyond existing personal computers, while inquired "what is the essence of human beings?"
