Ueberholz, a Professor of Computer Science and Parallel Computing at the Niederrhein University of Applied Science (Hochschule Niederrhein, HN) in Krefeld, Germany visited GJU. Aim of the visit was next to the scientific exchange the extension of the memorandum of understanding between Niederrhein University of Applied Science and GJU to link the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the HN and the School of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at GJU. This extension will allow GJU students of computer science and computer engineering to spend part of their German year at this new partner university and profit from the innovative and research oriented teaching from next fall on wards.

On March 21, 2017, Peer Ueberholz presented a seminar titled “Courses and Research Opportunities at the Faculty of Computer Science at the Niederrhein University of Applied Science’’. The Hochschule Niederrhein is the 5th biggest university of applied sciences in Germany, with over 14000 students. In the seminar, Professor Ueberholz explained that the Faculty of Computer Science at the HN aim is to provide students with a solid computational and industrial foundation that prepares them to adapt to technological change throughout their careers. Hands-on computer lab courses, the undergraduate internship program, and the graduation design project provide practical experience in computer science that complements academic and industrial training.

Before the seminar concluded, he brought forward his outlook for computational sciences and engineering research collaboration with GJU. He also mentioned the Institute for Modeling and High Performance Computing – IMH collaboration models with German and European companies along with the School of Basic Sciences and Humanities at GJU. Through deep discussions, it is found that there are a lot more ways for establishing joint educational and research collaborations.
