School of Architecture and Built Environment network meeting was held in GJU, Jabal Amman campus, where was hosted by the dean of SABE, Dr. Omaimah Al- Arija and the Exchange Coordinators Arch. Armani Malhas (Architecture) and Rawan Majzoub (Design). The guests were welcomed also by the network heads Prof. Joachim Kieferle and Prof. Christine Bernhard from the applied science University of RheinMain. Network Coordinator Iris Wildfeuer from GJU`s International Affairs Department was also present, as well as the head of the architecture department Dr. Ing. Farah Al- Atrash.

The event took place on 3rd and 4th of May 2023 in combination with a student workshop on the topic "A German Bakery in Amman” for which a group of fifteen students from HS RheinMain university travelled to Jordan. Aside from HS RheinMain GJU partner universities HS Darmstadt and THWS were represented, joint by German partner universities such as HS Munich, HBK Saarland, HS Darmstadt, THWS and HS Bochum online for a hybrid session on the first day of the network meeting.  

After some welcoming words by the hosts and network speakers GJU Vice president Prof. Dr. Reiner Finkeldey started the meeting with some updates that GJU had undergone since 2022. This introduction to larger developments at GJU was followed by an insight into department updates from the SABE Exchange Coordinators, followed by an insight into GJU`s research activities by the Dean of Scientific Research Prof. Dr. Samer Al-Gharabli.

Various discussions followed the presentations, amongst other on possible ideas for a GJU Research Cluster and in particular the need for more seats for SABE students at the partner institutions.

Sessions continued on the second day of the 2023 network meeting, including a presentation by GJU architecture alumni Rayan AlFadel, a lecture held by renowned architect Ammar Khammash and a joint Q&A session with the students led by the Head of Culture and Press Section at German Embassy Amman Ms. Leonie Lorenz.

The 2023 SABE network meeting concluded with an industry visit to the Royal Film commission and agreement on the time and date for the network meeting 2024.
