This year’s network meeting of the School of Applied Medical Science took place at HS Furtwangen, hosted by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Sliman Shaikheleid the vice dean of the Mechanical and Medical Engineering department and newly nominated network speaker for the department of Biomedical Engineering, supported by his colleagues from HS Furtwangen as well as the nominated network speaker for the Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering department Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Dipl.-Chem. Veronika Hellwig from TH Lübeck.

The event took place from 15th to 16th of September 2022.  The head of GJU´s Biomedical Engineering department Dr. Sameer Hasan joined the meeting together with SAMS `s exchange coordinators  Dr. Jumana Ma'touq (Biomedical Engineering) and  Dr. Mohammad  F. Khanfar (Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering) The network coordinator Iris Wildfeuer from the International Affairs Department was also present.

The different German partner universities such as HS Albstadt Sigmaringen, TH Deggendorf, TH Lübeck and FH Zwickau were represented  in person to join the discussions.

After some welcoming words by the host representative Prof. Dr. Ulrich Mescheder, vice-rector of Research and Development and a by a brief introduction of all participants, Prof. Dr. Reiner Finkeldey GJUs Vice President for International Affairs, started the meeting online with some updates that GJU had undergone since 2021. In succession a formal vote for the new network speakers took place. Both nominations were unanimously accepted by all network members.

Brief department updates were then presented by the school with special focus on the new Master programs in Health Informatics and Nursing.

 Various discussions followed, such as how to increase incoming numbers at GJU and joint supervision on Master Thesis. Course matching in order to increase the number of subjects that GJU students can chose from in their German year was another focus point.

The dean of scientific research at GJU, Prof. Samer Al-Gharabli together with the head of the PCE department Dr. Nafisah Al-Rifai joined the meeting online for an introduction and update on the research clusters in general and the SAMS research cluster in particular on the second day of the meeting.

The meeting concluded with the agreement on various follow-up meetings for the different topics discussed and the overlaying conclusion to expand and intensify the collaboration between the network partners further during the remainder of the year 2022 as well as the aim to expand the network for 2023.

The network members were further able to participate in an industry visit to “Univent Medical GmbH” a production company for FFP2 masks in Villingen. After the network meeting Dr. Mohammad Khanfar and Dr. Sameer Hasan  took the opportunity to expand GJU`s collaborations by visiting other partner universities such as HS Bielefeld and HS RheinMain before returning to Jordan.
