On Tuesday 13th of March 2018, Under the Patronage of the President of German Jordanian University (GJU) Prof. Manar Fayyad, in cooperation with Heavenly Culture, World Peace and Restoration of Light Foundation (HWPL), the School of Basic Sciences and Humanities (SBSH) organized a Symposium on “Youth and Peace in a Conflict World”.

Fayyad welcomed the guests and the audience mentioning the importance of the topic to spread a culture of peace among young generation, mentioning that the biggest challenge now is to create a better future for coming generations without wars and conflicts.

The symposium that aims to educate GJU’s community about the concepts and the culture of peace in all aspects that affect societies and the world consisted of two sessions.

The first session highlighted the “Challenges in the Route of Peace” where invited guests Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdullah Al Khateeb, Former Director General of the Social Security Cooperation Dr. Maen Al Nsour, Journalist Mrs. Ekhlas Al Qadi, Director of the Arab Institute for Security Studies Dr. Ayman Khalil and GJU Instructor Dr. Dima Khasawneh -each in their field- spoke about the Political, Economic, Social and Educational challenges that Jordan and the area face.

The second session discussed the “Youth empowerment Institutions for Spreading the Peace” where the guests educated the audience about the institutions, civil society organizations, media and family roles in spreading the culture of peace and ways in which young generation can be part of it.

Invited guests included Head of the Education Committee-Jordanian Parliament Dr. Musleh Al Tarawneh, Former Minister Dr. Nabeel Al Shareef, Ministry of Youth representative Mr. Ahmed Abadi, Journalist and Social Media activist Mrs. Dima Farraj and NGOs member Mrs. Aysha Yaghi.

At the end of each session GJU instructor Mr. Adel Hawatmeh conducted an open discussion between the audience and the guests.
