The Vision Rehabilitation Center (VRC) at the German Jordanian University (GJU) held a workshop entitled “Introduction to Visual Rehabilitation” for the second-year students in the visual impairment course of the Queen Rania Faculty for Childhood at Hashemite University.

This workshop comes within the activities and role of the VRC derived from the strategy of the University in serving the community and spreading awareness among specialists, students, and different groups of society.

The VRC team introduced visual impairment concepts and definitions, diseases caused by it. A simulation was used to clarify visual disabilities and their impact on daily life to familiarize the students with problems associated with visually impaired people to provide them with the best assistance.

On the other hand, the team presented rehabilitation services, including a comprehensive assessment of visual functions, presentation of supportive and magnifying devices, and training, in addition to providing a detailed explanation of the importance of environmental modifications, the basics of visual rehabilitation in daily life skills, orientation, and mobility.

At the end of the workshop, the students used and experimented with different magnifying devices and recognized their usefulness in improving the quality of life of people with visual challenges and increasing their independence and productivity.
