The climate change and human health (awareness campaign) that targeted the university students started its first lecture at the German Jordanian University on Monday, 17th of November,2014. It aims at spreading awareness about the effect of climate change on our health and to show how can people take part in adaptation to climate change.

 

The campaign, which is sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO), is providing the student   with opportunity to become a recognized Ambassador by the (WHO), on climate change and its effect on human health. In addition to a certificate that will give the student the priority to attend future training/workshops/events organized by WHO, and to take an active role in community to spread awareness in the health issues that are the result of climate change. Besides that, two Ambassadors will get monetary rewards of 100$ and 50$ each! 

Dr. Qasem Abdelal, head of department of Water and Environmental Engineering, gave the lecture about climate change and human health, defining the climate change that is a change in the statistical distribution of weather patterns when that change lasts for an extended period of time and its refer to a change in average weather conditions, or in the time variation of weather around longer-term average conditions. 

Furthermore, he elaborated the main causes and dynamics of climate change that are representing in Earth’s temperature which is a balancing act, the Greenhouse Effect causes the atmosphere to retain heat, Changes in the sun’s energy affect and  how much energy reaches Earth’s system, and Changes in reflectivity affect how much energy enters Earth’s system.
