
The German Jordanian University (GJU) represented the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan at the IEEE SCME 2025 International Conference by delivering a keynote lecture online, entitled: "From Experimentation to Strategy: A Comprehensive University Model for the Ethical Integration of Generative AI Tools into Smart Education."
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Ziad Abuelrub, Director of the Center for E-Learning and Academic Performance Improvement (CeLAPI), and Prof. Ala Khalifeh, Advisor to the University President for Campus Life Affairs. It was held as part of the International Conference on Smart Learning Courses (IEEE SCME 2025), organized by the Smart University College for Modern Education in Hebron, Palestine, on Sunday, June 15, 2025. The conference witnessed wide participation from regional and international universities and academic institutions, with 170 peer-reviewed papers accepted.
The keynote highlighted GJU’s pioneering institutional initiative to integrate generative AI tools into higher education. The project encompassed 19 academic courses across diverse disciplines and engaged over 600 students. The presentation detailed the outcomes of the first and second phases of the initiative, the methodology for designing interactive assignments, and the mechanisms used to evaluate the impact of AI on learning outcomes.
Dr. Abuelrub emphasized the importance of universities leading the way in offering innovative and responsible educational models that keep pace with rapid digital transformation. Prof. Khalifeh added that the initiative provides a practical foundation for realizing the vision of a smart university that integrates innovation, data analytics, and sustainable learning.
The lecture received considerable attention and positive engagement from conference participants, with GJU’s experience being hailed as an inspiring model that could be adopted by higher education institutions across the region due to its clear strategic vision and comprehensive approach.
