What are the important technology trends and how new technologies can help to build sustainable solutions for companies to improve their business applications?

The adapt2job team from Germany, Prof. Dr. Edda Pulst (Westphalian University) and Dr. Markus Reifferscheid (SMS Group) conducted a dedicated workshop for Jordanian companies to strengthening the employment orientation of Higher Education programs through a better collaboration between educational institutions and companies. They introduced the adapt2job dual education methodology, provided joint understanding of technologies for sustainable solutions, discussed the expected impact on business and the students’ employability and how to get a better guidance of the students’ work during upcoming workshops.

The partnering event took place on February 13, 2022 at the new Innovation Space organized by GJU’s Deanship of Innovation, Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship and supported by GIZ in the frame of the MOVE-HET project. The experts from Germany provided an overview about previous held workshops, and their results and impact on the students. Furthermore, samples used at SMS group and other companies about new technologies like Digital Twins, Artificial Intelligence and IoT have been introduced.

The participating companies were asked to deliver material to facilitate the students’ work based on scenario techniques guidelines. Together they discussed and developed clear cases that will be presented to the students.

Fine Hygienic Holding is considering a scenario to increase the facial tissue production by keeping the same quality.

Hadayana-Stores presented a challenge on how to reduce waste and time in the design process and how new technologies could help to use the waste.

Hikma Pharmaceutical would like to inquire on how new technologies provide solutions for the automation of documentation of CO2 pollution in the company.

JBM introduced a challenge related to empty water dams while Lafarge Concrete needs a forecasting solution on minimizing rejected orders while operating in a high competitive market.

Wakileh Contracting needs solutions for optimizing the operational maintenance for the on-site treatment plants for wastewater use and Maersk sees a need to minimize the delays of truck deliveries by using new technologies.

The participants appreciated the overall workshop format and inspiring atmosphere and benefitted from the peer exchange and the common development of their use cases. They also valued the focus on partnership seeking between companies and the university with the aim to add practical elements to the students’ education and prepare them for the job market after graduation.

The adopt2job team further met with GJU’s Management to discuss the importance of such applied collaboration and teaching formats that enhances the students’ employability by exposing them to real business challenges according to the companies’ needs and how to even better integrate this into GJU’s study plans.

A site visit to two smart wastewater reuse projects in Fuheis installed by Wakileh Contracting concluded the expert’s consultancy visit. Based on the on-site visit an IoT solution will be built in GJU’s Innovation Lab as a student’s project for monitoring the smart used-water project in an elderly home in Fuheis together with Wakileh Contracting Company and the adapt2job team.

The upcoming adapt2job student workshop is scheduled to take place end of September 2022. Companies and the university are looking forward to this event that will engage GJU students and professors in providing solutions for real business challenges.
