The German Jordanian University (GJU), in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment / Environmental Protection Office in Madaba Governorate, and in partnership with several official and service entities, organized a comprehensive clean-up campaign in the Al-Mamouniya area of the Governorate. The campaign was implemented as part of the executive program of the national cleanliness strategy and efforts to reduce random littering.

The Minister of Environment, Dr. Ayman Suleiman, who patronized the campaign, emphasized that such initiatives reflect growing awareness of the importance of environmental protection and the promotion of social responsibility. He noted that reducing random littering is a national priority due to its direct impact on public health and the overall urban landscape.

He further stressed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting awareness and field-based programs in cooperation with educational institutions and local authorities, contributing to the consolidation of environmental protection culture and the achievement of sustainable outcomes.

For his part, the President of the University, Prof. Alaaldeen Al-Halhouli, affirmed the university’s strong belief in its national and developmental role, highlighting its commitment to linking academic knowledge with practical application and community service. He pointed out that launching the first community clean-up campaign in Madaba reflects the university’s dedication to instilling environmental responsibility among its students and promoting active citizenship through practical initiatives that support national efforts to protect the environment and improve quality of life.

Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Farah Al-Atrash, explained that organizing the campaign aligns with the Deanship’s vision to empower students to fulfill their societal and environmental roles, while fostering volunteerism and teamwork. She added that such practical initiatives provide students with the opportunity to translate theoretical awareness into real-world practices, noting the Deanship’s continued commitment to launching quality programs that strengthen belonging and responsibility toward the environment and society.

The campaign was supported by staff and machinery from the Madaba Municipality, the Madaba Joint Services Council, the Royal Department for Environmental Protection, and the Community Police, in addition to the Governor of Madaba, the Director of Madaba Police, the University President, and university students, as part of strengthening institutional partnerships in support of environmental causes.

The campaign included extensive field-cleaning activities, removing waste and debris from streets and vacant lands, as well as distributing reusable eco-friendly cloth bags to motorists. The initiative aims to reduce littering, encourage responsible environmental behavior, and promote a culture of public cleanliness.

The campaign ultimately seeks to promote civilized behavior among various segments of society—especially youth—improve overall public cleanliness, and reduce littering, thereby contributing to public health protection and enhancing the urban image of Madaba Governorate, within ongoing efforts to reinforce environmental awareness and community partnership in protecting the environment.
