A team from the German Jordanian University (GJU) collaborated with researchers from the University of Southern California (USC) to participate in the Optimized Road Damage Detection Challenge (ORDDC’2024), organized by the 2024 IEEE International Conference on Big Data (IEEE Big Data 2024). The joint team achieved third place among 42 participating teams from 19 countries.

It is notable that the first and second places were secured by industry teams: Fujitsu Research and Development Center Co., LTD. won first place, while researchers from Objecteye Inc., China, secured second place.

The GJU team included Mohammad Yasin, an undergraduate computer science student, Eng. Reem Shtaiwi, a research assistant appointed by GJU in the last two years for research projects, and two faculty members from the Department of Computer Science, Dr. Amani Abu Jabal and Dr. Abdullah Alfarrarjeh.

This achievement highlights the significant contribution of GJU students and faculty in global challenges, showcasing their expertise in big data analytics and artificial intelligence. It also emphasizes the value of collaboration between academic institutions across the globe in addressing real-world challenges.
