The Deanship of Student Affairs at the German Jordanian University (GJU) organized a celebration marking the anniversary of the Battle of Karameh and Mother’s Day, attended by the University President, Prof. Alaaldeen Al-Halhouli, Dr. Omar Mashhour Al-Jazi, son of the martyr Field Marshal Mashhour Haditha Al-Jazi, and the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Farah Al-Atrash, along with university students and members of the academic and administrative staff.

Prof. Al-Halhouli emphasized that this national occasion embodies the deeply rooted values upon which Jordan is built, foremost among them loyalty, belonging, and dignity. He noted that the path of development and modernization led by His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein, may God protect him, continues steadily toward strengthening the state of institutions and law, and reinforcing security and stability. He stressed the role of youth as the cornerstone of the nation’s future, calling for adherence to the values of knowledge, discipline, and hard work, and for transforming challenges into opportunities that contribute to serving society and building a more prosperous future for Jordan.

He also highlighted the great status of mothers in building society, affirming that they are the primary foundation in instilling values and shaping generations. Their role, he noted, extends beyond care to forming the basis of awareness, belonging, and responsibility among children. He added that the Jordanian mother has always been a model of giving and sacrifice, playing a pivotal role in advancing development and reinforcing humanitarian and national values under all circumstances.

For his part, Dr. Omar Al-Jazi stated that this day represents pride and honor for all Jordanians and the Arab nation. He praised the role of the Jordanian Arab Army and the fedayeen in defending the land and dignity, recalling the individual and collective heroism demonstrated during the battle. He described the courage and sacrifice shown by the martyrs and officers as reflecting the highest meanings of patriotism and unity.

He added that the Battle of Karameh is not merely a military event, but a symbol of national unity and solidarity between Jordan and Palestine. He emphasized the importance of recalling it as a source of patriotism rather than division, and stressed the need to document and teach these heroic stories so they remain a source of inspiration for future generations.

In turn, the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Farah Al-Atrash, said that Karameh Day and Mother’s Day represent two important occasions that reflect both national and humanitarian values. Karameh Day embodies pride in the nation’s history and heroism, while Mother’s Day highlights the central role of mothers in building families and instilling values in generations. She noted the Deanship’s commitment to supporting activities and programs that foster a spirit of belonging, responsibility, and teamwork.

The celebration included poetry performances by students Hazem Thamer and Mohammad Juma’a, expressing national pride and appreciation for the great role of mothers.

The event concluded with the distribution of flowering plants to participating mothers at the university, as a gesture of appreciation and gratitude for their role in society and the family.

This celebration comes as part of the German Jordanian University’s commitment to commemorating national and social occasions, instilling humanitarian and national values in its students, and strengthening their connection to their country’s history and identity.
