
The German Jordanian University (GJU), through the Community Service and Development Division at the Support Services Department, celebrated Tree Day in collaboration with the Naour Directorate of Education and the Municipality of Naour. The event was held at Abu Naklah Secondary School in Naour, with the presence of Naour District Governor Dr. Mohammad Al-Hossami, GJU Vice President Prof. Malek Al-Sharairi, Director of Educational Affairs at the Directorate of Education Dr. Rabia Al-Fuqaha, the school principal, Naour Mayor Mzeid Al-Masa’feh, and a number of students from both the school and the university.
Dr. Al-Hossami expressed his appreciation for the university’s efforts and initiatives in enhancing community engagement and fostering a spirit of volunteerism. He also affirmed the municipality’s readiness to support the university in its future initiatives, recognizing the value of its interactive activities.
For his part, Prof. Dr. Al-Sharairi emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration with the local community in various activities, whether at the district level or within the university. He highlighted GJU’s continuous efforts to make a positive impact on society through initiatives aimed at promoting environmental awareness and developing skills among community members. He also pointed out that the university’s activities extend beyond its campus to include partnerships with schools and institutions in the region. He reaffirmed GJU’s commitment to supporting such initiatives that contribute to community service and fostering greater environmental awareness.
Naour Mayor Mzeid Al-Masa’feh, in turn, confirmed the municipality’s continuous support for such environmental activities and emphasized the importance of maintaining the newly planted trees to ensure their sustainability. He also proposed planting evergreen trees along the central island in Naour.
Dr. Rabia Al-Fuqaha thanked the university for its ongoing cooperation, stating that this initiative aligns with the "One Million Trees" campaign launched by the Ministry of Education, which aims to plant trees over ten years.
In the same context, the school principal, Dr. Hadeel Al-Edwan, highlighted the significance of these initiatives in promoting environmental values and increasing green spaces in the region. She expressed her gratitude to the university and local community institutions for their participation in this valuable initiative.
Eng. Al-Qudah praised the participants and stressed the importance of organizing and carefully planning the tree-planting process. He noted that Abu Nakla School was selected for the initiative due to the presence of an irrigation system that facilitates tree care. He reaffirmed that future tree-planting projects will be thoroughly studied to ensure sustainability and maximize environmental benefits.
This event comes as part of the university’s commitment to community partnership and environmental awareness. The activities included tree planting in the school’s garden, with active participation from school and university students and supporting entities, fostering a spirit of cooperation and positive interaction. This initiative reflects GJU’s dedication to its environmental and social objectives.
