On behalf of His Excellency the Minister of Culture, Dr. Firas Al-Darabi‘ah, Director General of the National Library Department, inaugurated the activities of Arabic Language Week, organized by the Center for Arabic Language and Culture at the German Jordanian University (GJU) in celebration of International Arabic Language Day.
During the opening ceremony, Dr. Haytham Althawabih, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Humanities and Social Sciences, emphasized that the Arabic language represents a unifying cultural and civilizational vessel and serves as a primary tool in building identity and enhancing human communication. He stressed the importance of consolidating its presence in the academic environment and promoting its teaching as a language of science, culture, and dialogue.
Ms. Khalida Radaideh, Director of the Center for Arabic Language and Culture, highlighted the center’s role in offering specialized educational programs designed to develop the four core language skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. These programs follow an integrated approach combining Modern Standard Arabic, colloquial dialects, and Arabic for specific purposes, while incorporating the cultural dimension into the learning process.
Arabic Language Week includes the opening of the Jordanian Forum for Arabic Calligraphy and Islamic Ornamentation exhibition, featuring a distinguished group of calligraphers and artists, including Riyad Tabal, Jordan’s oldest calligrapher. The week also hosts intellectual and cultural activities with participation from Prof. Dr. Mohammad Yaghan and Engineer Ahmad Bassam Muawad. The activities will continue until Thursday, December 18, 2025.
The week’s organization reaffirms GJU’s commitment to its academic and cultural role in promoting the Arabic language, highlighting its significance as a language of civilization, identity, and open dialogue with other cultures
