The German Jordanian University (GJU) has achieved a new milestone as student Bashar Khaled Al-Shami, from the School of Sustainable Systems Engineering (SSSE), majoring in Electrical Engineering, secured second place in the Queen Rania National Entrepreneurship Prize in its 15th cycle for 2025. The Prize recognizes his entrepreneurial project, which exemplifies the application of engineering knowledge in developing advanced communication solutions.

The winning project involved the establishment of Laserlink, a company specializing in the development of Free Space Optics (FSO) laser communication technologies. This advanced technology enables high-speed, highly reliable data transmission without the need for traditional infrastructure, offering promising applications in the defense, aviation, and robotics sectors. The project was completed under the supervision of Prof. Raed Musleh, whose academic expertise and scientific guidance contributed significantly to refining the concept and strengthening its competitive readiness.

This achievement reflects the high level of excellence demonstrated by students of GJU and their ability to transform innovative ideas into impactful entrepreneurial ventures. It also highlights the success of the university’s applied educational model, which connects academic outcomes with market needs and fosters a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, in alignment with the national transition toward a knowledge-based economy.

The results were announced during the closing ceremony held under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan. The event was organized by Princess Sumaya University for Technology, in partnership with Orange Corners Jordan and Orange Corners Netherlands. Representing Her Royal Highness, Marwan Juma, Vice Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, sponsored the closing proceedings, which were attended by a distinguished group of academic leaders, entrepreneurs, and representatives of Jordan’s innovation ecosystem.

The family of GJU extends its warmest congratulations to Bashar Khaled Al-Shami on this distinguished accomplishment, which reflects the creativity and excellence of its students and reaffirms the university’s role in preparing graduates capable of innovation and competition at both local and international levels.
