For her part, Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Farah Al-Atrash thanked the students for their efforts and highlighted the importance of engaging in activities that encourage dialogue as a tool for understanding, embracing diverse perspectives, and promoting the values upheld by the United Nations, such as justice, cooperation, and peace.
The conference featured lobbying and coalition-building activities, in addition to formal debate sessions that followed UN procedures in managing dialogue and drafting resolutions. The participants addressed a range of contemporary political, social, and cultural issues, including: the international recognition of the Afghan government, regulation of digital currencies, and women’s rights in conflict zones.
The committees concluded with a set of proposals and recommendations that reflected the students’ awareness of global issues and their ability to analyze them from multiple perspectives.
The Model United Nations is considered as one of the most prominent and professional extracurricular educational activities. It provides participants with the opportunity to simulate the work of diplomats and country representatives within the UN, enhancing skills in dialogue, critical thinking, negotiation, and drafting resolutions.
