Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, Dana Al-Zoubi, affirmed that the launch of the “Digital Trade in the Southern Mediterranean Region” project represents a strategic step toward building an integrated digital trade ecosystem that promotes sustainable economic growth and keeps pace with rapid global economic transformations.

This came during the launch ceremony of the regional project “Digital Trade in the Southern Mediterranean Region”, attended by German Ambassador to Jordan Dr. Bertram von Moltke, Dr. Lorenz Petersen, Country Director of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Jordan, Thibaut Moyer, Acting Head of Cooperation at the European Union Delegation to Jordan, and President of GJU, Prof. Ala’aldeen Al-Halhouli.

Al-Zoubi stated that the project embodies a shared vision among countries in the region to achieve economic integration based on digital transformation, reflecting a collective commitment to enhancing the readiness of national economies to integrate into the global digital trade system, with support from the European Union and the German government, and implemented by GIZ

She explained that the project builds on a national path for developing digital trade and will be implemented in Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia, with knowledge exchange involving Libya, Lebanon, Palestine, and Algeria. It is based on five key priorities: strategy development, strengthening digital tools, facilitating e-commerce, empowering the private sector, and enhancing knowledge exchange.

She noted that Jordan has made progress during the first phase of the National E-Commerce Strategy (2023–2025) by developing legislation, strengthening institutional frameworks, improving the logistics environment, and facilitating procedures for low-value shipments and parcels.

She added that the ministry supports SMEs in integrating into the digital economy by developing e-commerce platforms and implementing specialized training programs, benefiting a number of companies and entrepreneurs under the EcomConnect program, alongside initiatives such as Click-Business.

She also highlighted initiatives implemented in partnership with national institutions, including TechForward, in collaboration with 12 universities, linking graduation projects with private sector needs in digital platforms and artificial intelligence, in addition to specialized programs in financial technology.

In the logistics sector, she pointed to the establishment of the E-commerce and Fast Transport Customs Center to unify procedures, accelerate clearance processes, and facilitate parcel delivery, along with developing banking tools to support cross-border e-commerce.

She emphasized that the next phase will focus on expanding implementation and maximizing economic impact, contributing to accelerating digital transformation, strengthening regional integration, and supporting Jordan’s integration into digital value chains.
