The Department of Social Work of the School of Applied Humanities and Languages (SAHL) at the German Jordanian University (GJU) organized a symposium on gender-based violence in cooperation with the Jordanian Society for Social Work, in line with the national campaign to raise awareness about gender-based violence.

The Assistant to President GJU, Dr. Omar Al-Shbailat, stated that the organization of the workshop comes from the strategy and priorities of the university to strengthen the protection system from domestic violence and stop gender-based violence, adding that GJU attempts to take into account all aspects of its employees, especially the psychological aspect.

Dr. Sahar Makhhamreh, the event coordinator, specified that the symposium aimed to raise awareness on the subject besides its causes and methods of treatment and to demonstrate the importance of the role of social workers in that awareness. She pointed out the need to educate women and constantly review laws and legislation to exercise their right to work and prove their role in building and achieving sustainable development for their families and society.

Dima Al-Adayleh, the activities officer at the Jordanian Society for Social Work, explained protecting women from gender-based violence, ways to deal with family problems, causes and forms of violence, including physical, verbal, and sexual, and some regulations and laws that deal with issues of violence.

At the end of the symposium, social work master's students at GJU performed a play entitled Hear me out, which discussed how to deal with cases of extortion, economic and physical violence that people are exposed to in their work and explained the social work task of creating a safe environment for the family and society together.
