The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration Tawfiq Krishan, patronized a symposium on Traffic Accidents through Youth Vision, organized by the Road Safety Center for Excellence (RSCE) at the German Jordanian University (GJU) in the presence of GJU president, Prof. Alaeddin Al-Halhouli.
During the symposium, Krishan stressed the importance of the youth's role in educating local communities about the danger of traffic accidents, launching youth initiatives through universities on traffic safety, and addressing the risks of accidents since traffic accidents cause many deaths among young people.
Krishan pointed out that the 100 municipalities spread across the Kingdom are ready to connect with youth initiatives to reduce traffic accidents as a joint national action, encouraging self-monitoring and informing the specialized authorities of any dangerous traffic violations that threaten the citizens' lives.
For his part, Dr. Al-Halhouli said that the symposium comes within the university's plan to educate the students on traffic safety, strengthen the concepts of traffic safety and enhance their role in reducing road accidents as they have the power of raising awareness and educating the community with their effective methods, appreciating the Traffic Department efforts in spreading traffic awareness.
In addition, he indicated that traffic accidents are one of the most critical problems that affect society, pointing to the negative economic and social repercussions. Dr. Alhalhouli called for managing traffic accidents by stopping negative behaviors on roads, raising attention and understanding through internet networks, and holding awareness meetings for youth.
In turn, the Director of the Center, Dr. Mohamed Hamed, stated that the symposium seeks to raise the level of awareness among the various groups of society traffic safety and reduce the negative consequences of accidents, and document the vision of the youth at universities to the challenges facing drivers, and address their wrong behavior.
Dr. Hamed shared facts and statistics on the subject, stating that studies showed that the number of deaths for the age group from 18 to 35 years reached about 205 deaths last year, and 285 young people were seriously injured, mentioning that the Security Directorate showed that the cost of accidents and their consequences during the past year reached about "320 Million Jordanian Dinars".
