Master’s students specializing in Spatial Planning at the School of Architecture and Built Environment (SABE) at the German Jordanian University (GJU) participated in a public hearing organized by the Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development (ARDD) in collaboration with UN-Habitat Jordan. The event was held with wide participation from representatives of public and private institutions as well as members of the local community.
The session aimed to promote participatory planning practices in the development of Jabal Amman. Participants discussed the area’s key challenges, opportunities, and needs, resulting in the formulation of priority-based projects that could be implemented with the support of relevant stakeholders.
The discussions also emphasized the importance of collaboration between public and private sectors and the local community to transform Jabal Amman into a model of sustainable urban development.
The students’ participation was supervised by Dr. Maram Tawil, who teaches the "Spatial Socio-Economic Development Planning" course, with support from SABE’s Dean, Dr. Omaimah Ali. Additionally, Architect Leen Fakhouri and graduate student Ola Najada contributed to the session’s facilitation.
This initiative reflects GJU’s commitment to community engagement by integrating its students and faculty into practical experiences that enhance academic skills and contribute to societal development.
