The School of Applied Humanities and Social Sciences (SAHSS), in collaboration with the Consulting and Training Center (CTC) and the International Projects Office, has launched an Arabic Language and Culture Program for a group of German students representing several partner universities of the German Jordanian University.
Dr. Thelal Oweis, the program coordinator and Dean of the Deanthip of Student Affairs (DSA), emphasized the importance of immersing oneself in Jordanian culture and engaging with local students to enhance their Arabic language skills. During the inauguration ceremony, several speakers highlighted the program's significance in fostering cultural and civilizational ties between Jordan and Germany. Dr. Johan Plains participated remotely from Germany via MS Teams, sharing his valuable experiences and underscoring the ongoing collaboration in language learning between the two nations.
Dr. Oweis noted that the program, initiated in partnership with the German Exchange Service for Cultural Exchange in 2014, has welcomed approximately 400 students to date. This year's cohort consists of thirteen students who will begin by studying the colloquial dialect for the first two weeks before transitioning to a Standard Arabic language curriculum that will continue through the end of the first semester. The program also offers a variety of cultural activities and field visits to explore Jordan's rich cultural, heritage, and historical sites.
