The German Jordanian University (GJU), in collaboration with the Association of Arab Universities and the Leadership Preparation Institute in the Arab Republic of Egypt, has launched the activities of the fourth edition of the training program for preparing sustainable development leaders. This edition sees participation from leaders and students from 14 Arab countries.
The program, inaugurated in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Mamoun Al-Dbieh, representing His Excellency the Minister, along with the Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, His Excellency Dr. Amr Salama, and the advisor to the Egyptian Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Kareem Hamam, as well as the President of the University Prof. Ala’aldeen Al-Halhouli, aims to enhance the leadership capacities of young people and empower them to effectively contribute to achieving sustainable development goals.
During the ceremony, attended by the Director of the University of Sharjah, Dr. Hamid Al-Naimi, and his accompanying delegation, several speeches emphasized that youth are the pillars of the future and the foundation of societal progress and enlightenment. They fight ignorance, backwardness, injustice, and tyranny, striving for a brighter and more prosperous future.
It was highlighted that the top priority for higher education institutions worldwide now is to align with sustainable development goals. This will require a focus on sustainable education and the building of a skilled workforce that emphasizes personal and technical skills crucial for a sustainable world.
The ceremony included screenings of documentaries about the participating entities, artistic performances by the university and Greater Amman Municipality bands, and an exchange of commemorative shields.
The three-day training program, organized by the Deanship of Student Affairs (DSA), includes a series of lectures, seminars, and workshops on leadership, diplomacy, charismatic leadership, and the necessary leadership skills for personal development. Additionally, there is a workshop on sustainable development in the twenty-first century, a tour of the German Jordanian University to familiarize participants with its educational system and infrastructure, and field visits to several tourist and archaeological sites.
