The two researchers from the School of Natural Resources Engineering and Management (SNREM) at the German Jordanian University (GJU), Dr. Zakariya Dalala and Dr. Osama Saadeh, presented the research and funded projects that they had supervised at the University. The presentation was under the patronage of the University’s President, Prof. Ala’aldeen Al-Halhouli, and attended by the Vice President Prof. Ralf Rosskopf and the Dean of SNERM, Dr. Qasem Abdelal, in addition to faculty members from different schools.
This presentation comes as the first of a series of lectures to introduce funded projects and research activities of faculty members to increase interaction and collaboration in addition to provide a space for the exchange of ideas and expertise in order to increase access to future fundings that serve the university, GJU students and the local community.
The Project “Energy Smart Mediterranean Schools Network (ESMES)” which is funded by the European Union ENI CBC MED Program and implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Education was discussed by the two researchers. ESMES focuses on the optimization of energy consumption in public schools through innovative, monitoring-based renewable energy and energy efficiency (REEE) pilot actions to cover electrical energy consumption, as well as improving the energy efficiency. Pilots will be implemented in Madaba Industrial School, Jrena Secondary School for Boys in Madaba and Beit Yafa Secondary School for Girls in Irbid, in addition to a fourth school that will be identified during project implementation.
The Project “Increasing Access and Planning for Efficient Cooling Solutions in Jordan” was also presented by the researchers. The project is funded by the “Clean Cooling Collaborative Foundation” and is implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Education. The aim of the project is to support the reduction of carbon emissions in government buildings by providing high-efficiency cooling devices through proper design and planning. In addition, a “German Agency for International Cooperation (GiZ)” funded project titled “Integrating Energy Economy Modelling Concepts in the Energy Engineering Curriculum at the German Jordanian University (GJU)” was also presented.
For his part, Prof. Al-Halhouli praised the efforts of university faculty members for their engagement in research and international funded projects that provide opportunities for education, training and growth for researchers and students alike, emphasizing that the University will continue to support these areas to be a pioneering applied university in the fields of scientific research, leadership, and innovation in cooperation with partners from Jordan and Germany.
