The Vision Rehabilitation Center (VRC) at German Jordanian University (GJU) participated in the inclusive education forum organized by the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD) entitled with "Towards an Inclusive Society".
The lecturer and vision rehabilitation specialist at VRC, Maisaa Masoud, presented about the importance of assistive technology and devices in supporting inclusive education for students with vision impairment. She highlighted the importance of utilizing low-cost assistive technology and simple accommodations and adaptations that every teacher can apply into the classroom environment, which will improve the performance and enhance the participation of students with vision impairment in the schools. Also, she emphasized on the importance of offering the needed training for teachers and caregivers by sharing with them the best practices in inclusive education to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all students.
The distinguished role of the GJU in community services was highlighted through introducing the services that provided by VRC. The services including the rehabilitation and training for persons with low vision, providing training courses for specialists who are interested in developing their skills and knowledge in the field of vision impairment, and raising awareness among community members and institutions.
This forum was an opportunity to exchange experiences among the participants, including experts in the field of inclusive education, civil society organizations, international organizations, the private sector, and school teachers from different Jordanian governorates, to discuss frameworks for unifying and strengthening efforts in the field of enabling persons with disabilities to obtain their right to education within an inclusive educational environment. In addition, to discussing ways to employ innovation and assistive technology in supporting of the right to inclusive education for all students.
