The GJU's German Language Center's welcoming event is becoming a tradition. The semi-annual event, which aims to raise early awareness of the German dimension, German Year, and the relevance of learning German at GJU, has a major presence in its third formal session held on November 29, 2022. A total of 770 students, currently enrolled in German I, got introduced to the different German Departments that represent the German Dimension at the University and get know their roles in supporting them for the German Year to make it an unforgettable experience.
The event was held in the presence of the Vice President for International Affairs, Prof. Dr. Reiner Finkeldey who give a short welcoming speech, and drew attention to the professional opportunities in the German job market that are opened up, especially through the German language skills which required language proficiency in level B2.
The Director of the German Language Center, Jacqueline Rogler stressed the necessity of focusing on language development and aiming for a language proficiency level B2 by joining the newly developed German course system called B2- track.
Two motivated students, Ahmad Zatari and Khalid Haroun who are currently at an advanced German level in the B2 track talked about how the intensive course system B2 track differs from the normal B1 course system and how they were fortunate to get nominated into this track. Ahmad Zatari was one of the scholarship holders who got rewarded to spend 4 weeks in Germany for an Intensive German course for his outstanding results in learning the language.
The International Affairs Department, IAD got the chance to introduce its role in the logistical support of the students in their preparation for the German Year and after their return. IAD briefly explain the German Year requirements and the process of applying for German universities and international visa.
Students, during the speech of the head of the International students club Hamza Tuffaha, were encouraged to join the club to get involved in events and activities with the incoming students who are mainly from Germany to exchange practices with them and get closer to their language and culture.
In addition, GJU alumni Aseel AbuHamda and Yaman Hamdan shared their first-hand experiences and success stories with the students and expressed how the German Year offered them excellent opportunities for professional and personal development in a multicultural atmosphere, and how that set them steps forward in any competition in the labour market. At the end, GJU alumni answered the students’ questions and concerns.
