The Vision Rehabilitation Center (VRC) at the German Jordanian University (GJU) and the Institute for Family Health at King Hussein Foundation signed an agreement with the aim of cooperation in the fields of research, training, awareness, and the implementation of joint projects to improve the environment for people with visual impairments.
The agreement, which comes within the framework of a strategic partnership and continuous cooperation, was signed by the President of GJU, Prof. Ala'aldeen Al-Halhouli, and the Director of the Institute for Family Health, Ibrahim Aqel.
Dr. Al-Halhouli said that GJU is looking forward to a strategic partnership with the Institute in vision rehabilitation and social work programs in the School of Applied Humanities and Languages (SAHL), which qualifies specialists to deal with immigration and refugee issues.
For his part, Dr. Aqel affirmed the institute's keenness to strengthen cooperation relations with GJU, and to expand in the fields of research and studies, noting that having 26 sites throughout the country would play a central role in this field.
Moreover, Aqel pointed out the importance of linking the agreement with large national projects led by the Family Health Care Institute, related to the detection and diagnosis of disabilities through specialized committees from the institute, the Supreme Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and the Ministry of Health.
The Director of VRC, Dr. Muhammad Hamed, pointed out the importance of the agreement, which includes the exchange of courses and training programs in the field of visual rehabilitation, the provision of awareness workshops, the referral of visually impaired people to the center to obtain visual assessment services and the necessary training and provide supporting and magnifying devices for those whose vision has been evaluated at the center.
The agreement stated the transfer of persons with visual impairments or visually impaired children who need early intervention services to the concerned authorities based on standards set by the center, in addition to cooperation in research, training, awareness, and conducting scientific studies and related research.
Furthermore, it included cooperation efforts and exchange of experiences between the Institute and the Deanship of Innovation, Technology Transfer, and Entrepreneurship (DI-TECH) at GJU to consolidate the culture of innovation and startups, developing technology transfer, in addition to investigating cooperation in the field of developing entrepreneurial ideas and innovation, developing creative ideas in the technical, professional and academic areas for people with visual disabilities.
