Eng. Abdullah Zureikat, a graduate of the School of Architecture and Built Environment (SABE) at the German Jordanian University (GJU), has won first place in the prestigious "Kafa’a" Award, organized by the Engineering Business Forum.
This year’s competition featured eight projects from various Jordanian universities, with each entry undergoing presentation and evaluation by a panel of judges in the final round. Eng. Zureikat’s graduation project, titled *"Reporters Without Borders – Beit Jibreen"*, secured the top spot. The project was supervised by Eng. Thaer Qabaa, a practicing professor at the university.
Eng. Zureikat explained that his project aims to honor the historical significance of Beit Jibreen and uncover the truths suppressed by the occupation. It involves restoring the village’s mosque, transforming its court into a radio station to amplify Palestinian voices, and linking the Caves of Bells to the "Reporters Without Borders" compound through a journey symbolizing the struggle for truth. The project is designed to strengthen Palestinian resistance and provide a platform for free reporting and global advocacy in support of justice.
Eng. Qabaa expressed pride in his student's achievement, noting that GJU students continue to excel in addressing critical and sensitive issues, particularly at a time when the Palestinian people face unprecedented challenges. "We believe that architecture can carry humanitarian messages and address important issues, beyond merely designing iconic structures," he said. He also praised the ongoing success of GJU students in regional and international competitions, highlighting their commitment to meaningful, impactful work.
