Students from the School of Applied Humanities and Social Sciences (SAHSS) at the German Jordanian University (GJU) visited Umamah Bint Abi Al-As School in Husban, under the supervision of Prof. Gordon Mitchell.
The activity featured storytelling with traditional Japanese Kamishibai story boxes and small puppets, creating a rich, interactive, and imaginative experience.
The students of the school stood out as an audience with a unique ability to believe in the magic of storytelling. This belief gave the performers confidence and encouragement. The students' bright eyes and deep attentiveness were the greatest reward for those presenting the storytelling show.
This activity was part of a broader approach known as Service Learning, which combined community service with learning-by-teaching. These pedagogical principles were vital in higher education. A student project with children was not only memorable for the young audience but also a deeply meaningful experience for the university students themselves. Using newly acquired foreign language skills in front of such a receptive audience was both inspiring and educational."
