The Library of the German Jordanian University (GJU), in partnership with the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation, launched the annual Reading Marathon with the participation of around 60 school students from Na'oor and Madaba, in addition to university students and staff. During the marathon, approximately 12,000 pages were read as part of an effort to foster a generation of readers and learners.
The Director of the University Library, Mr. Laith Al-Naser, affirmed that the university’s participation in the marathon for the third consecutive year reflects the strong engagement of both students and community members. He emphasized the importance of reading in broadening students’ horizons and enhancing their critical thinking skills, describing reading as an essential life skill.
For their part, Ms. Mais Qtaishat and Mr. Mohammad Al-Assaf from the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation praised the partnership between the University Library and the Abdul Hameed Shoman Library, emphasizing the marathon’s role in promoting reading, shaping individual character, and fostering excellence.
The marathon’s activities featured a variety of segments, including storytelling sessions for children from the University Nursery, gift distribution to winners, and a wall where participants wrote their favorite quotes.
This marathon is part of the university’s ongoing efforts to cultivate a culture of reading and establish it as a lifestyle that helps build a knowledgeable generation capable of meeting contemporary challenges.
