On Tuesday, October 30, 2018, a delegation from the German Parliament visited the German Jordanian University (GJU). The visit comes within the frame of the university-industry relations and employability with a special focus on the Dual Study Program in Logistics and the launch of the Virtual Logistics Lab (VLL) funded by the German Parliament.

The delegation was welcomed by the President of GJU Prof. Manar Fayyad, Vice Presidents Prof. Dorit Schumann, Prof. Atef Kharabsheh and the Dean of the School of Management and Logistic Sciences (SMLS), Dr.Malek Alsharairi.

Prof. Manar Fayyad said that GJU always aspires to cooperate with different German institutions with the aim of achieving continuous improvement and development. She clarified that the German dimension is an essential pillar at GJU where the whole university collaborates to qualify the students for the German Year in all aspects.

She also mentioned that GJU was modeled on the German applied-sciences model, characterized by their focus on putting knowledge into practice and on promoting knowledge transfer, adding that the implementation of the Virtual Logistics Lab (VLL) is an example of this approach.

The delegation accompanied with representatives from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the German Embassy in Amman, industry partners from Jordan, SMLS’s academics and students visited the Virtual Logistics Lab (VLL), where Dr. Malek Alsharairi conducted a presentation about the Dual Study Program in Logistics and the Lab.

Dr. Malek highlighted the most distinguished features in the school specifying that Logistics has been among the national priorities to develop the economic growth. He stressed that the Dual Studies is a reaction to the needs of the labor market and increasing the employability of graduates, in addition, it considered as a bridge to the existing gap between university and industry by combining university education and company training.

The Director of the Office for Industrial Links Ms. Britta Kähler and GIZ MOVE- HET Team Leader Mr. Mohamed Badran moderated a discussion where the Director of Aqapa Logistics Village Mr. Hakeem Abul Feilat and the students spoke about the successful pilot Dual Study module that was conducted at the ALV.

In the end, former Federal Minister of Transport and Head of the delegation Dr. Peter Ramsauer valued the efforts of the university and all concerned parties. He encouraged the students to take the advantage to introduce new ideas at the regional and global levels in this field.
