Bridging the gap between academic research and cutting-edge environmental technology.

In an era defined by rapid climate shifts and increasing environmental volatility, the need for precise, real-time hydro-meteorological data has never been more critical. Meeting this challenge head-on is Nexus Nature, an innovative environmental and meteorological technology firm born directly out of the research corridors of the German Jordanian University (GJU).

Today, Nexus Nature stands as a premier example of academic spin-off success founded by Dr. Qasem Abdelal, it provides state-of-the-art monitoring solutions to high-end municipal entities, international heritage sites, and major regional infrastructure projects.

Core Value Statement

Nexus Nature delivers end-to-end environmental intelligence. By seamlessly integrating proprietary home developed and manufactures hardware—including advanced dataloggers and wireless sensor mesh networks—with a robust Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) analytics platform, the company transforms complex hydro-meteorological data into actionable insights. Through AI-assisted early warning systems and real-time monitoring, Nexus Nature empowers decision-makers to safeguard communities, optimize water resources, and protect critical infrastructure.

The Catalyst: Incubation at GJU and TRIP

The journey of Nexus Nature from a conceptual research initiative to a fully operational technology company is a testament to GJU’s commitment to applied science. Founded and led by engineering faculty, the company’s foundational R&D was deeply embedded in the university’s academic framework, driven by active learning, hydrological modeling, and a desire to solve localized environmental challenges in Jordan.

The true accelerators for this transition were GJU’s Deanship of innovation, technology transfer and entrepreneurship (DiTEch) and the Technology Research, innovation Park (TRIP). Those provided the vital incubation ecosystem necessary to succeed.

By utilizing TRIP labs and facilities, Nexus Nature was able to rapidly prototype and test its physical technology. Complex hardware solutions were conceptualized, built, and rigorously tested using university resources. The TRIP environment allowed the founding team to refine their mesh networks and dataloggers, ensuring the hardware met stringent industrial standards before field deployment.

Delivering Solutions to High-End Entities

Nexus Nature’s rigorous academic foundation quickly translated into commercial trust, allowing the company to secure and execute high-stakes projects for top-tier entities.

  • Zarqa Ma’in basin instrumentation: One of the company's flagship deployments is a pilot meteorological monitoring system in the Zarqa Ma’in basin, a total of 12 systems were deployed. These include rain gages, stream flow monitoring systems and a Doppler radar system.

  • Municipal & Regional Scale Monitoring: Nexus Nature has successfully deployed commercial SaaS proposals for municipal entities, providing real-time flood monitoring and meteorological systems that are critical for urban resilience.

  • Transboundary Water Resources: The company's expertise has been leveraged in massive regional efforts, including surface water modeling, equipment deployment, and capacity building for the hydro-political baseline study of the Azraq and Yarmouk River basins.

  • Smart farming support: systems were developed and deployed at more that 25 farms across Jordan. These give insights to farmers on their farm operation that are customized to their local conditions. Farm operational conditions are checked against optimal crop and farm conditions, and notifications are sent to the farmer to adjust their operation.

  • The WEFE Nexus: Pushing the boundaries of environmental monitoring, Nexus Nature actively incorporates Earth observation and remote sensing data from the European Space Agency into advanced Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem (WEFE) framework studies across Jordan.

The Technology Edge

What sets Nexus Nature apart is its holistic control over both the physical and digital architecture of its systems. The company doesn't just aggregate data; it generates it.

The proprietary Nexus Nature dataloggers and solar-powered alert receivers communicate seamlessly with the company's central platform. By utilizing tools ranging from EPA SWMM to HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS, the analytical backend feeds into AI-assisted predictive models. This ensures that a drop in barometric pressure or a sudden spike in streamflow is immediately translated into a localized, actionable alert.

Looking Ahead

As a GJU spin-off, Nexus Nature continues to maintain its strong ties to the university, driving innovation that feeds back into engineering pedagogy and active learning environments. Commercially, the company is rapidly expanding its footprint, recently showcasing its highly specialized weather and flood monitoring sensors to a global audience at the LEAP tech conference.

Nexus Nature proves that with the right incubation support, university-born research can evolve into commercially viable, highly sought-after technology that actively protects the world we live in.
