The hosted doctorate preparation and support program, "Doing a Doctorate in Social Work," is a unique joint initiative between Universität Hamburg and the German Jordanian University. This program provides a structured framework for high-quality doctoral education in Social Work.
The program offers a systematic curriculum of teaching and reflection, including:
- Research Colloquia
- Academic Lectures and Conferences
- Specialized Workshops
- Advanced Methodological Training
- Teaching-Learning Research Projects
Lecturers and professors from the partner universities and other institutions offer courses that allow doctoral researchers to engage deeply with theories and methods relevant to social work, such as social science and humanities research methodology, participatory research, and research ethics.
Primary Objective: The primary objective of the program is to prepare qualified master's students and graduates from national,regional and internatioal contexts for doctoral studies in Social Work and to support them throughout the preparation of their dissertation. The program provides a formal structure enabling the award of the Doctor of Philosophy (Dr. phil.) degree by Universität Hamburg.
Residency Exemption: In accordance with Article 9 of the regulations for hosted and joint programs, students enrolled in this hosted program are exempt from the requirement to reside in the degree-awarding country (Germany).
Full Degree Equivalence: This exemption ensures full degree equivalence as recognized by the Jordanian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, without the need for physical residency in Germany.
Admission Requirements
Prospective students must fulfill the following criteria for admission:
Academic Qualifications:
- A regular bachelor¾s degree (or equivalent) with a minimum rating of good (or equivalent), and a regular master¾s degree (or equivalent) with a minimum rating of good (or equivalent).
- Bachelor's and Master's degree in related subjects or disciplines with Social work (e. g. Education, Psychology, Sociology, Cultural Studies, Counselling).
- A total of 300 ECTS credits (or equivalent) in disciplines relevant to social work.
- German or English language competences (C1 according to the CEFR, the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
