The German Jordanian University celebrated the 79th Independence Day of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan through the Deanship of Student Affairs (DSA), in a patriotic atmosphere that blended the fragrance of history with the hope for the future. The event was attended by a number of official and academic figures, along with a large crowd of students, faculty members, and administrative staff at the university, reflecting a spirit of belonging and national unity.
In his opening speech, the President of the University, Prof. Alaaldeen Al-Halhouli, expressed his pride in this enduring national occasion, emphasizing that Independence Day is not merely a passing memory, but a renewed opportunity to reaffirm commitment to the homeland and to draw inspiration from the values of sacrifice and nation-building exemplified by the founding fathers.
Prof. Al-Halhouli noted that this year’s Independence Day holds added symbolic significance, as it coincides with the 20th anniversary of the university’s founding—an institution established under a Royal Vision to serve as a model of distinguished applied education, connecting knowledge with the real needs of the labor market.
He also highlighted several key milestones in the university’s journey, foremost among them the recent Royal Visit and the inauguration of the Technology, Research, and Innovation Park an embodiment of the trust placed in the university’s role in fostering creativity and empowering youth to lead the future.
For her part, Dr. Thelal Owais, Dean of the Deanship of Student Affairs, emphasized the significance of this historic occasion, which reflects the aspirations of Jordanians for freedom and sovereignty aspirations that were realized when the Legislative Council declared the Kingdom’s independence on May 5, 1946, and the late King Abdullah I bin Al-Hussein assumed leadership.
She added that Jordan, under the wise leadership of the Hashemite monarchy, continues to move steadily toward development and progress, drawing strength from its deep-rooted history and enduring values, despite the challenges it faces regionally and globally.
The celebration included artistic and cultural performances that reflected the spirit of the occasion. University students recited patriotic poems expressing pride, loyalty, and a strong sense of belonging. The event also featured a traditional Jordanian dabke performance by the Greater Amman Municipality Troupe, showcasing the richness and beauty of authentic Jordanian heritage.
The Jordanian Armed Forces team delivered an impressive martial arts demonstration that captivated the audience and added an atmosphere of dignity and national pride to the event.
In turn, the Public Security Department Band impressed attendees with a selection of national musical pieces, accompanied by a distinguished performance from the University’s musical ensemble, adding a unique artistic and national flavor to the celebration.
At the conclusion of the event, artists Hussam and Wessam Al-Louzi performed an emotional patriotic medley that expressed sincere love and loyalty to the homeland and its leadership.
This celebration reaffirms GJU's commitment to its national role in solidifying identity and fostering a spirit of belonging among its students through the commemoration of major national occasions. The university continues, as envisioned by His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein, to serve as a pioneering scientific and cultural institution contributing to the building of a prosperous Jordan driven by the determination of its youth and the achievements of its institutions.
