The German Jordanian University (GJU) organised the “Prosthetics Innovate Challenge: Driving Awareness, Inspiring Change”, an awareness competition held in celebration of International Prosthetics and Orthotics Day. The event was conducted in partnership with Mefaz Company, the project’s non-academic partner and the exclusive agent of Ottobock SE & Co. KGaA in Jordan.

Part of the Biomedical Engineering Innovation and Technology (MEDiTech 2025) project, funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the competition aimed to raise community awareness about the importance of prosthetic and orthotic devices while promoting innovation in education, industry, and society.

Participants, including individuals with and without disabilities, engaged in various tasks designed to foster empathy, enhance understanding of the challenges faced by people with limb loss, and highlight the need for customised prosthetic solutions. The event also encouraged biomedical engineering students to apply creativity and problem-solving skills to patient-centred innovations, providing hands-on experience that extends learning beyond the classroom.

GJU hopes that the “Prosthetics Innovate Challenge” will serve as a model for community engagement and innovation, demonstrating how awareness, education, and practical application can come together to improve the lives of individuals relying on prosthetic and orthotic devices.
