The German Jordanian University (GJU) recently welcomed a delegation of architecture professors and students from Hochschule Trier (HS Trier) for a Five-days sustainability workshop, held from October 1st to 5th, 2024. The workshop was part of the ongoing DAAD SDG Project, Building Sustainable Futures: Strategic Partnership HS Trier and GJU.
The event was coordinated by Associate Professor Dr. Farah Atrash, Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) and academic member at the School of Architecture and Built Environment (SABE), alongside MSc. Architect Rawan Khattab, project coordinator and researcher for both faculties (SABE and SNREM).
The delegation was welcomed by Prof. Ala’aldeen Al-Halhouli, The President of German Jordanian University, Prof. Reiner Finkeldey, Vice President for International Affairs( GJU), and Dr. Omaima Arja, Dean of SABE, Dr Qasem Abdelalah , Dean of SNREM and Dr Osama Saaded Project Co Pi (SNREM) and president advisor for sustainability.
Dr. Farah Atrash introduced the workshop to the attendees, providing an overview of the project and its objectives. She discussed the collaborative efforts between GJU and HS Trier in promoting sustainability within the architectural field, focusing on sustainable practices at GJU.
The workshop centered around enhancing sustainable solutions within SABE campus and introducing sustainability in Architecture curricula. Professors and students from both GJU and HS Trier actively participated in discussions and collaborative activities. Presentations by academic experts from both universities enriched the exchange of knowledge and fostered a deeper understanding of sustainability in architecture study plan. The students concluded the workshop by presenting their findings and recommendations for sustainable architectural solution's in SABE, which contributed to creating a dynamic learning environment.
