The German Jordanian University (GJU), through the Doing Good, Growing Strong project, successfully concluded the “GJU Innovate for Impact” Hackathon for Social Impact and Sustainability with a final pitching and awards ceremony held on January 5, 2026, at the Jabal Amman Campus.

Organized by the project team led by Dr. Abdelrahman Zuraik and Arch. Dana Al-Lafi, the hackathon empowered students to develop innovative, human-centered solutions addressing key challenge themes related to campus life and student engagement, smart and sustainable mobility, academic collaboration and wellbeing, waste reduction, and community connectivity. Six finalist teams presented their ideas to a distinguished judging committee of local and international experts.

The event concluded with an awards ceremony attended by H.E. Ms. Nesreen Barakat, where cash prizes totaling JOD 2,200 were awarded to the top three teams: BusPal (first place), EngageU (second place), and GJU Power Loop (third place).

BusPal, the first-place winner, is an integrated mobility platform that combines real-time public transport data with GJU shuttle services to improve commuting reliability, reduce waiting times, and support more sustainable transportation choices.

EngageU is a student-driven digital engagement platform that encourages participation, collaboration, and creativity through themed challenges and reward-based interaction.

GJU Power Loop addresses electronic waste through a circular economy approach, enabling the reuse of technical components and transforming discarded batteries into sustainable energy solutions for campus use.

The hackathon reaffirmed GJU’s commitment to innovation, social responsibility, and sustainability by enabling students to co-create impactful solutions that enhance campus life and community wellbeing.
