The German Jordanian University (GJU) organized the First German Jordanian Road Traffic Safety Workshop under the patronage of the Minister of Public Works and Housing, H.E Eng. Yahya Al Kasbi, and with the participation of representatives from relevant ministries and national institutions in Jordan, in addition to remote participants from Germany, the United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia.

H.E Al Kasbi stressed that road safety is a joint responsibility between the concerned government organizations, mentioning that the Ministry is currently working within an action plan to develop traffic safety on the main roads by conducting periodic inspections through specialized teams to enhance the needs of roads, maintenance and painting work.

From his side, the President of GJU, Prof. Ala’aldeen Al-Halhouli, said that national and local authorities in Jordan are making tremendous efforts to confront traffic accidents by providing a multi-dimensional approach to traffic accidents and accounting for emerging technologies in transportation and mobility, adding that GJU complements other efforts to prevent traffic accidents.

 Dr. Al-Halhouli hoped that reaching out to the partners in Germany, the United Kingdom, and neighboring countries, especially Saudi Arabia, to create avenues of research collaborations and ultimately collaborative efforts and outcomes would benefit communities.

The Director of the Jordan Traffic Institute, Colonel Bilal Al-Awamleh, City Manager, Greater Amman Municipality, Engineer Ahmad Malkawi, Prof. Dr. Jürgen Follmann, Hochschule Darmstadt, Dr. Klaus Habermehl, Hochschule Darmstadt gave speeches during the opening ceremony on strategies, plans and solution to contribute to the topic of the workshop.

Director of The Road Safety Center for Excellence (RSCE) at GJU, Dr. Mohammad Hamed, explained that the workshop aims to discuss the human and economic cost of traffic accidents in the Kingdom, accidents in Germany, technological developments, awareness programs, and the role of youth work organizations in global efforts directed to the development of traffic safety.

It is worth to mention that the workshop discussed the importance in achieving an effective exchange of knowledge related to best accident prevention practices, reviewing some advanced experiences in the field, and exploring possible cooperation opportunities.
