The Deanship of Student Affairs at the German Jordanian University (GJU), in cooperation with the Politics and Society Institute, organized a dialogue and discussion session as part of its ongoing efforts to encourage students to engage actively in student affairs and youth participation.
The session featured a research paper prepared and presented by GJU students participating in the “Generation of Modernization” program, titled “The Role of Student Councils in Decision-Making at Jordanian Universities: An Exploratory Study of the Clarity and Scope of the Legal and Regulatory Framework Amid Political Modernization.” The session was attended by students interested in academic and political affairs.
The discussion examined the current state of student councils at Jordanian universities and the legal and regulatory frameworks governing their work. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of transforming student councils from traditional representative bodies into active partners capable of influencing university decision-making. The session also explored opportunities to strengthen student participation in the context of Jordan’s political modernization process.
This initiative reflects the Deanship of Student Affairs’ commitment to providing a supportive environment in which students can move beyond participation to engage in research, critical analysis, and constructive inquiry. It also highlights the importance of empowering students to produce knowledge that contributes to a deeper understanding of their university environment and supports its development.
