Two students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Maintenance at The School of Applied Technical Sciences (SATS), German Jordanian University (GJU), Haitham Al-Jundi and Issa Khair, have implemented their graduation project titled "Artificial Intelligence in Machine Safety Applications" at Al-Qatraneh Cement Company, under the supervision of Dr. Ahmad Alshwawra and Dr. Ahmad AlMuhtadi.
The project aims to enhance workplace safety in industrial environments by employing computer vision technologies to detect the entry of a human body—or any part of it—into a machine’s danger zone, automatically stopping the machine to prevent injuries.
This initiative builds upon an earlier graduation project by student Ghaith Al-Zu’bi, in which a prototype was developed and tested using miniature machines built in the department's labs with 3D printing technologies, supported by the Deanship of Scientific Research at the German Jordanian University.
The second phase was carried out in collaboration with Al-Qatraneh Cement Company, represented by Plant Manager Eng. Mohammad Ijaabo and Supervising Engineer Eng. Zaid Alshawabkeh. The project reflects the university’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with local industries, turning graduation projects into practical, real-world applications that serve as stepping stones to students’ professional careers.
