The International Affairs Department (IAD) welcomed the new Incoming students for Fall Semester 2022/2023 on Thursday, 6 October 2022. This semester we are happy to welcome 101 students from different nationalities. We have 64 Exchange and Erasmus+ students. There are also 24 NOHA and Self-payer students, who will attend the Professional Training Certificate Program in Social Work (Diploma Program). Furthermore, 13 DAAD scholarship holders will attend the Arabic Language Course program (ALC program).
These students are coming from 35 different partner universities in Germany and from 10 universities from Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Netherlands, Sweden, Ireland, Poland, France, Malta and Kenya. There are 56 Bachelor students, 44 Master students and 1 Diploma student. 40 students will study at the Main Campus in Al-Mushaqqar and 61 at SABE Campus in Amman.
Mr. Jens Hegemann, the Director of the International Affairs Department, started the meeting with giving a speech and useful advice about studying at GJU and living in Jordan. The Vice President for International Affairs, Prof. Reiner Finkeldey, the Head of the Social Work Department, Dr. Bader Madi and the Dean of the DSA, Dr. Thelal Qwies gave short speeches as well, then all students introduced themselves shortly, before having a short Coffee Break.
In the second part of the meeting, Dr. Bader Madi gave a 30-minutes lecture about the culture & traditions of Jordan, followed by a 1-hour “Intercultural Training Session”, which was given by the Incoming Coordinators at the IAD, Mr. Rakan Dweiri and Ms. Sarah Ababneh. They talked about the history, culture and values of Jordanians. They also had some discussions with the students about many intercultural issues, where many examples and real-life situations were explained in an interactive way to the students.
