The Vision Rehabilitation Center (VRC) at the German Jordanian University (GJU) held two workshops for fifth year students of the German Jordanian University- School of Architecture and The Built Environment (SABE), presented by Ms. Maisa Masoud, the lecturer and vision rehabilitation specialist at VRC.
The workshop gave an introduction about persons with vision impairment, their needs and challenges, and the services that the VRC offered to help them to be independent and to improve their quality of life. The workshop also included practical experiences with simulation glasses to simplify and bring the experience closer to students to facilitate imagining the challenges that persons with vision impairment go through.
The main focus of the workshop was to present the nature of daily life challenges and needs for persons with vision impairment in mobility and while using building. The importance of designing accessible buildings for all persons including ones with vision impairment by applying the needed environmental adaptations was presented. Taking into consideration to apply these principles and advices when designing buildings from the design stage. This will increase the independence for persons with vision impairment, improve their mobility and quality of life, and play an important role in including them into society.
