The 5th conference of the “Fachverband Arabisch” held at the Landessprachen Institut (LSI Bochum) at the Ruhr University Bochum, has once again proven to be the central forum for the vibrant exchange of ideas, research findings, and best practices in the field of Arabic teaching in the German-speaking region. This year's conference, which took place under the patronage of Qatar Foundation International from May 3rd-4th, brought together educators, and researchers from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Egypt, and Jordan.

The conference featured a diverse array of sessions covering various aspects. Topics ranged from innovative teaching techniques, and the integration of digital tools in the classroom, to the development of intercultural competencies through foreign language learning.

A notable presentation was delivered by Ms. Zain Husam Abu-Taleb, a German and Arabic lecturer at the GLC, who discussed "Collocational Competence of German Learners of Arabic." Her presentation shed light on the challenges and strategies for improving the collocational knowledge of Arabic learners, providing both theoretical insights and practical applications. Abu-Taleb's research emphasized the significance of understanding fixed expressions and their proper usage, which is crucial for achieving fluency and accuracy in any foreign language.

The conference also highlighted the latest advancements and the ongoing challenges in Arabic language education. By focusing on both university-level instruction and Arabic teaching in schools, the conference addressed a wide spectrum of educational needs and laid the groundwork for future improvements in the field.
