The German Jordanian University (GJU), in partnership with the University of Trier, Germany, recently hosted an expert-led workshop on sustainability strategy. The session was presented Prof. Klaus Helling, Dean of the School of Environment, Business, and Law at the University of Trier. The workshop focused on advancing sustainability processes, establishing clear goals, and improving the environmental ranking of the German Jordanian University.
This initiative is part of the broader Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) project funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) under the title "Building a Sustainable Future: A Strategic Partnership between the University of Trier and the German Jordanian University." During the workshop, Prof. Helig shared valuable insights into the University of Trier’s Birkenfeld Environmental Campus, which ranked first in Germany and third globally in the 2023 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings.
The event included tours of GJU’s campuses in Madaba and Jabal Amman, as well as interactive group sessions aimed at reviewing campus operations, updating the university’s sustainability report, action plan, and environmental profile. In his concluding remarks, Prof. Helig offered recommendations for further strengthening sustainability efforts at GJU.
Looking ahead, faculty and students from The School of Natural Resources Engineering and Management (SNREM) at GJU will visit the University of Trier in October, aiming to deepen collaboration on sustainability-related initiatives.
