Amman – The German Jordanian University, represented by the Deanship of Student Affairs, celebrated "Communities Day" through a vibrant cultural event showcasing the rich cultural diversity of its students from various nationalities. The event was attended by several ambassadors and cultural attachés accredited in the Kingdom, reflecting the international character and cultural openness that distinguish the university.
This special cultural day is part of the German Week activities organized by the university in celebration of its 20th anniversary.
In his speech during the event, GJU President Prof. Ala'aldeen Al-Halhouli emphasized that Jordan, under the wise Hashemite leadership, stands as a model in embracing cultural diversity. He praised the unifying spirit that prevails in Jordanian society and the authentic values reflected in the performances of the participating communities. He also expressed pride in the national unity and the cultural expressions that highlighted the Arab identity and shared civilizational heritage.
For her part, Dr. Manuela Schwartz, President of Magdeburg University, commended the strength of Jordanian-German relations, noting that what she witnessed during the celebration reflects a spirit of understanding and intercultural integration, and demonstrates the openness of the academic community in Jordan. She described the cultural diversity showcased through the artistic performances and wide participation as living proof of the ability of peoples to coexist and connect in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Dhelal Oweis, expressed her pride in the cultural vibrancy embraced by the university. She pointed out that the “Communities Day” celebration coincides with the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, which is observed annually to highlight the importance of intercultural dialogue in promoting understanding, peace, and sustainable development.
The celebration featured traditional performances by the Jordanian community that reflected generosity and hospitality, followed by a diverse artistic program that included musical and folk dance performances representing various cultures — such as Circassian music, Jordanian dabka, Iraqi poetry, Ukrainian dance, Palestinian dabka, Emirati yola, Syrian arada, and a German song performance — giving the event a unique international flair.
The celebration concluded with the opening of cultural booths and exhibitions that presented the heritage and traditions of the participating communities, offering visitors a valuable opportunity to explore the university's rich cultural diversity. The event reaffirmed GJU's position as an international educational institution that promotes the values of pluralism and openness.
