The Center for the Study of Natural and Cultural Heritage (CSNACH) at the German Jordanian University (GJU) participated in implementing a specialized training program for religious tourism guides organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. The program brought together 50 general tour guides with the aim of preparing specialized guides and enhancing the readiness of Jordan’s tourism sector.

The program was implemented in cooperation with the Jordan Tour Guides Association, Ammon Applied University College, Pro Terra Sancta, and the Studium Biblicum Franciscanum, and included training in both Christian religious tourism and Islamic heritage.

Representing the Center, Dr. Catreena Hamarneh delivered specialized lectures on the geology and topography of Jordan’s holy sites. The Center also organized an academic field visit to Mount Nebo, where participants explored the site's geological and natural features and their historical and religious significance, enriching the knowledge and interpretation skills of tour guides.

Prof. Nizar Abu-Jaber, Director of CSNACH, emphasized that the Center’s participation reflects GJU’s commitment to applying academic knowledge in service of the community. He noted that integrating earth sciences with cultural heritage studies enhances the interpretation of religious sites and strengthens the capabilities of tour guides, contributing to the quality of Jordan’s tourism product and reinforcing the Kingdom’s position as a destination for religious and cultural tourism.

This participation reflects GJU’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and national institutions, supporting initiatives that develop national capacities and preserve Jordan’s natural and cultural heritage in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and Jordan’s vision for the tourism sector.
